On Tuesday 4th July twenty Year 8 and 9 students spent the day at The Belgrade Theatre in Coventry as part of The Physical Fellowship Project. Last month they spent two days working with Ben Morley from High Sprung Performance company (the country’s leading Physical Theatre Company for young people) in which they created a performance. The trip to The Belgrade was the culmination of this work, which they performed on stage at the theatre. During the day students also had the exciting and challenging task of working with other leading theatre companies. They participated in workshops run by Motionhouse (a dance theatre company) Vamos Mask Theatre and The Royal Shakespeare Company.
Miss Julius, Leader of Learning for Performing Arts, commented; “It was a long day and students worked hard but it was a great experience and an exciting opportunity for students to perform in a professional theatre and work with some of the country’s leading theatre companies. The performance the students created was a Physical Theatre piece about innovations in war and how they have changed the way wars are fought. Students worked exceptionally hard and created a fantastic show. They should all be very proud of themselves.”
The Physical Fellowship Project runs as part of our annual Arts Festival. The Festival which takes place every year towards the end of the summer term includes theatre visits, workshops and performances and will end with Arts Spectacular on Tuesday 11th July.
